Many of you will have heard that you can get a refund for your tools for work, or uniforms, or even books.

Unlike in the UK where as a PAYE employee you can claim receipted expenses relating to your job as tax deductible expenses, in Ireland you are given an allowance.  The allowance being a fixed amount based on your occupation type.  Which is why Revenue call it a Flat Rate Expense.  The benefit of this system is you are eligible for the Flat Rate expenses if your job description matches, without having to show you spent anything!
