Irish Capital Gains Tax (CGT) Returns for Share Sales
Form CG1 filing for employee shares, RSUs, stock options and investment portfolios
Sold shares from an employee share scheme, stock options or an investment portfolio? Our registered tax agents prepare and file your Form CG1 for a fixed, low fee. That includes returns for earlier years you may have missed. Whether you made a gain, broke even or made a loss, we handle it from start to finish.
Common CGT Misconceptions
Many people assume a CGT return is only needed when tax is due. In reality, filing matters even when you’ve made a loss or your gain is under the exemption.

Myth: “No tax due, no return needed.”
Fact: Every share disposal should be reported to Revenue in a CGT return, even if you made an overall loss or your gain was below the €1,270 annual exemption.

Myth: “If I made a loss, there’s no point filing.”
Fact: A return is how you formally record a capital loss with Revenue, so you can offset it against future gains on shares.

Myth: “I missed the deadline, so it’s too late.”
Fact: Overdue returns can be fixed. Filing and paying voluntarily stops further interest building up on any tax owed and can help you avoid higher penalties.
